{"id":944,"date":"2026-06-08T21:27:13","date_gmt":"2026-06-08T21:27:13","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/rivals2.com\/workshop-dev\/?post_type=knowledgebase&#038;p=944"},"modified":"2026-08-06T17:54:02","modified_gmt":"2026-08-06T17:54:02","slug":"2d-characters","status":"publish","type":"knowledgebase","link":"https:\/\/rivals2.com\/workshop\/knowledge-base\/2d-characters\/2d-characters\/","title":{"rendered":"Create 2D Characters"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">To create a 2D character, open the modding UI and click \u201cCreate New 2D Character Mod\u201d from the Initialize New Mod menu. 2D Characters are functionally identical to a standard character, with a few exceptions:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>They do not have a skeletal mesh (or rather \u2013 they ship with an invisible dummy mesh)<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>In places where a skeletal mesh animation would normally be required, you\u2019ll be able to set a flipbook animation instead.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Because 2D characters don\u2019t have a full skeleton, bone-relative properties such as hitboxes must all be positioned relative to the root.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">To create a flipbook, right click in the Content Browser -&gt; Paper2D -&gt; Paper Flipbook. Alternatively, you can duplicate one of the template flipbooks the character is generated with.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Pixel Art in Unreal<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Pixel art textures will appear blurry or have incorrect color values if they use the default settings.
